Jennifer Johnston, and Terando, RN, ESQ

Jennifer Johnston Terando, RN, ESQ

Always drawn to careers where she could help others, Jennifer understands her clients come to her in a time of need. She is compassionate toward her clients and committed to helping them get results.

Jennifer likes to joke that the upside of mid-life means she has years of knowledge and experience with which to assist her clients. Her well-rounded career dates back to her obtaining her BSN with honors from the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University over 20 years ago and continuing on to her scholarship to Case Western Reserve University School of Law  where she obtained her JD with a certificate in health law from the perennially recognized Law and Medicine Center and served as an associate editor on the Health Matrix: Journal of Law and Medicine.

Jennifer has worked as a Registered Nurse in medical-surgical and post-partum, general pediatrics, a pediatric surgical floor, and NICU. She has practiced nursing in Ohio, Florida and California, including at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where she was the charge nurse on a pediatric chronic care unit, caring for children with medically-complex/high-needs conditions, and at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.

Jennifer is admitted to the state bars of California and Illinois. Prior to forming her own firm, Jennifer worked at law firms in Los Angeles and Chicago. For the first seven years of her career, Jennifer represented physicians, hospitals and dialysis centers in medical negligence cases. Following this, she focused her practice on representing plaintiffs in catastrophic injury cases and wrongful death cases, including working with victims of the Asiana Air Crash in San Francisco in 2013. Jennifer utilizes her health law training and experience to advise physicians in employment contract review and negotiation and frequently lectures resident physicians on this topic. Through Your RN Attorney, Jennifer represents clients in a variety of legal matters.

With up-close knowledge of the perspectives of both defendants and plaintiffs in litigation, coupled with the time, expense and uncertainty of trial, Jennifer understands that only a select few cases are the right match for trial. The vast majority of cases reach a better financial result with a much lower emotional toll through settlement. As such, Jennifer has gone through extensive mediation training, and serves as a mediator. In addition to providing mediation services through Your RN attorney, Jennifer is a panel member of the Mediation Center of Los Angeles and also provides volunteer mediation services to the Los Angeles Superior Court through the Center for Conflict Resolution. Jennifer is the immediate Past-President of The Southern California Mediation Association.

Jennifer is married to a physician and together, they are raising three great children. The devotion she has to her own family guides her, when she is serving her clients, who often become family to her.
